Ciro Polito, Catanzaro's sports director, talks about the club's future after an exciting season. The team has shown a constant growth and might go to Serie A. "My property is physical, it makes sacrifices. It's not a fund. But something needs to be done," explained the yellow-red sports director to Tmw microphones. When you arrive at a final like this, then you need to raise the level for everyone. For three-four months, I had started thinking that we could go to Serie A. I told my players that if we had arrived at the playoffs, I would have wanted to win them. I always believed that we wouldn't make a cameo. The team has shown a constant growth every Sunday. Once we arrived at the playoffs, beating Avellino, my certainties increased. At the return to Barbera, the boys were alone against a people and reacted with great character, putting their heart into it, knowing that it would be a difficult game. The yellow-red director didn't hide his regret for the double confrontation with Monza, closed with a regulatory beffa after two intense games: "I wonder: is it okay that Monza scored more points than us, but why do we have to play 30 minutes more in the first round and not in the final?". Looking to the future, Polito has slowed down any hasty interpretation of his personal destiny, confirming however that Catanzaro remains the immediate priority: "I took a week because in these situations you need to be lucid. If Serie A arrived, who could refuse it? There have been many chit-chat. Today my thought is focused on Catanzaro. Next week I will meet with the president." On the market front, the sports director has clearly indicated the direction: to blind the key players and try to raise the bar even further. "We know that we need to blind the big ones. Therefore, Pigliacelli, Pontisso, Petriccione, Pittarello and so on. Because arriving there, the market calls." And on Liberali, one of the most interesting intuitions of the season, he added: "It has nothing to do with Serie B. It needs to be protected. Italian football needs players like him." Finally, a look at the bench and the figure of Aquilani, considered a central element in the project: "He is a top coach, with a bit of courage in the shoes of a big team, I would entrust him with any bench." Then the closing, which returns all the confidence of the director in the work done and in that still to be built: "In Serie B, his priority is Catanzaro. I am convinced that he will think well before taking a decision. If the received appreciation is concretized, it would be right to make the jump. But with him, we could start strong."
